FAQ on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar bhawan controversary

1) Why Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar purchased plot at Dadar?Was it for printing press?

Ans - Babasaheb didn't purchase Dadar plot for printing press.He wanted to establish a Social centre, Central HQ of Dalit movement on Dadar plot which he purchased in 1944 in the name of Trust out of donations received from society.

2) Has Babasaheb's dream fulfilled?If not why?

Ans - No. His son allotted the plot to 3 shopkeepers without knowledge of Babasaheb.Their eviction took about 25 years.

3) When was so called Ambedkar bhavan constructed?

Ans - After 1975. Since the plot was reserved in 1967 DP for secondary school, Trust got school plan sanctioned from BMC in 1975 which covered printing press area also as one of the columns is in printing press area. Thus, original trustees appointed by Babasaheb also proposed demolition of printing press building. Said plan included parking on ground floor which was unauthorizedly occupied for political offices and for marriages etc. This parking area was unfortunately regarded as Ambedkar bhavan. Babasaheb was not at all associated with this so called parking area/Ambedkar bhavan.

4) Is printing press a heritage site?

Ans - No. It was a temporary site office constructed by Babasaheb and he rarely visited this office since from 1946 to 1952 , he was mostly in Delhi. No one ever proposed this temporary office as heritage building but now tresspassers are shrewdly making it as emotional issue to usurp the plot. Even Babasaheb wanted to demolish printing press area and construct social centre on entire plot.

5)Was building dilapidated?

Ans - Yes. BMC issued notice under section 354 of BMC Act to demolish the structure. Due notices were issued to all occupants to vacate the premises and wide publicity was given regarding demolition and reconstruction, requesting everyone to cooperate in fulfilling dream of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

6) What is the plan of 17 floor building?

Ans - This plan will realize the dream of Dr.Babasaheb. Ambedkar .It has auditorium,multi purpose hall, skill development center, women's empowerment centre, Dhamma and monks training centre atrocityWhy Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar purchased plot at Dadar?Was it for printing press?
